- Netflix has not been shy regarding its desire to get into the world of gaming.
- It recently ported Into the Breach onto its streaming platform, which has been a great success.
- Now the company is reportedly looking to develop a AAA PC title at its Los Angeles Game Studio.
In March this year, Netflix signalled its intent to get into gaming by acquiring Finland’s Next Games. This was followed up by a port of Into the Breach onto the streaming platform, which has turned out to be a rather smart move on the part of Netflix.
While it continues to struggle in monetising its core streaming/subscriber business, it looks like efforts are full steam ahead on the gaming front, as job listings discovered on the company’s career portal hint at the development of a new AAA PC game.
Said jobs would be at Netflix Games Studio, which is located in Los Angeles, California.
There are more than a dozen roles related to this new mystery title, with a description for one of the key positions noting that “We’re looking for a creative and highly-skilled Game Director to help us forge the game direction and creative vision on a brand-new AAA PC game.”
“As Game Director, you will be the creative leader of one of Netflix’s first generation of internally developed original games. You will provide the vision and direction for the game from the concept phase, through production, launch, and live operations,” the job description adds.
While it is unclear what the project is, the amount of rich content for mining is plentiful at Netflix as it has several original series and movies it could draw upon in order to create said AAA PC game. Stranger Things, or indeed Squid Game, spring to mind for example.
It also remains to be seen if said title will be accessible via the Netflix streaming platform too, as most of the games made available to date have been low-power consuming ports of existing media.
Either way, it looks like the company is continuing to invest in gaming so it will be interesting to see what fruit it bears.
